RCA / ENDPOINT CENTRAL / AGENT HEALTH

Agent installed?
Prove communication.

A structured RCA for managed endpoints that stop checking in with Endpoint Central or fail to receive expected management actions.

Validate local health

Confirm the agent service/process is present, running and not repeatedly crashing. Capture local timestamps and relevant agent logs.

Trace the path

Validate DNS, proxy configuration, outbound reachability, required ports and TLS/certificate inspection where applicable.

Confirm management state

Compare the endpoint's last contact with the server-side device record and a known-good endpoint on the same network.

INVESTIGATION FLOW

Trace endpoint to console.

Endpoint baseline

Compare agent version, OS state, service status and recent reboot or configuration changes with a healthy endpoint.

Connectivity

Prove name resolution and the actual network path rather than assuming internet access means management connectivity works.

Management record

Correlate last-contact time, device identity and expected management action on the Endpoint Central side.

Root-cause rule

Do not reinstall the agent as the first response. Establish whether the failure is local agent health, DNS, proxy, network reachability, TLS/certificate handling, server availability or device identity. Remediate the demonstrated cause and confirm a fresh successful check-in.
